The mission of adult education and literacy
is to ensure that all adults who live in Texas have the skills
necessary to function effectively in their personal & family
lives, in the workplace, and in the community. Using federal and
state funds, Northside ISD Adult Education helps the adult learner
become self sufficient as an individual, as a family, in the workplace,
and in the community by offering the following FREE opportunities.
English As A Second Language Class (ESOL) English
Enrollment in an English as a Second Language (ESL) class will
help adults obtain literacy skills (speak, read, or write the
English language) to become more employable, productive and responsible
citizens, and assist adults who are parents to obtain the educational
skills necessary to help their children through school. Citizenship
classes are also available.
Adult Basic & Intermediate Class
Enrollment in an Adult Basic Education class will help adults
obtain literacy skills to become more employable and self sufficient,
assist adults who are parents to obtain the educational skills
necessary to read to their children, and prepare the adult learner
to enter Adult Secondary Education classes in order to obtain
a GED. Classes are also held at specialized sites for special
needs learners.
Adult Secondary Education Class (GED)

obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency,
assist adults who are parents to obtain the educational skills
necessary to help their children in their own educational development,
and assist adults in the completion of a secondary school education
(college or other academic training). ASE classes for Temporary
Aid to Needy Families (TANF) adults meet over 30 hours a week
until the learners obtain a job or complete their education.
Adult Secondary Education Work Readiness Class
Enrollment in a Work Readiness Adult Secondary Education Class
will help adults obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for
employment and self-sufficiency, assist adults in the completion
of a secondary school education by getting their GED, and guide
adults towards available post secondary education (college or

basic keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets and data base

work skills that will help them retain or obtain employment. Many
ASE classes are held at the workplace for employees of a requesting
business who want their employees to better themselves.

literacy needs at all academic levels with adult volunteers for
