NORTHSIDE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

Dear Patron,

As we welcome more than 90,000 students back to school this fall, Northside ISD is celebrating its second consecutive Recognized rating from the Texas Education Agency. NISD also has the most number of Exemplary campuses in its history.  Considering our size and our diversity, that is an incredible accomplishment, and I am so proud of all the hard work of all our teachers, administrators, parents, and students.

Our community also can take credit for our academic success. Whether you volunteer in a school or vote in a Bond or Board election, your support does make a difference.

And we hope we can make a difference for you. Our Adult and Community Education Department offers incredible educational and enrichment opportunities for people of all ages. In fact, we have more than 500 courses that serve more than 25,000 residents.

There are a few new courses this semester I want to highlight. There are new certificate programs in Graphic Design and Prepress, Online Para Legal, and a Leadership Institute.
Children will love Zoomagination, where live exotic animals will be brought to class, and for adults and children with special needs, please consider the Tambo Drumming class.

As always there are plenty of language, cooking, computer, money management, and recreation classes. From Kayaking to Medicare Open Enrollment, I promise there is something here for everyone at a convenient time and location.

I would like to take a moment to welcome four new schools to the Northside family: Hector Garcia Middle School, and Hoffmann, Kuentz, and Langley elementary schools. I wish everyone the best of luck for the 2009-2010 school year.

Sincerely,

John M. Folks, Ed.D.
