Dr. Cox has been with Northside Aquatics
since 1985, both as an athlete and a coach.
Prior to coming to Northside, Dr. Cox was the Asst. Dir. of Aquatics
and Head Age Group Coach at Washington and Lee University.
Coach Cox has served in
almost every capacity with Northside Aquatics.
She has been our head Novice Coach, Head 8 & under Coach, Head
Age Group Coach and Senior Team Coach during her tenure at Northside.
Laura was a 14-time
All-American in water polo and a 10-year member of the U.S. National Water
Polo Team, serving as team captain in 1980 and ’81.
She was also an All-American swimmer at Old Dominion University.
Dr. Cox wrote three,
ground-breaking works on the development of 8 & under swimmers.
In 1997, she wrote the Fundamentals of Competitive Swimming for 8 & Unders, followed in
1998 by the companion Fundamentals
of Competitive Swimming for 8& Unders Video, and in 1999 by her
second book Dryland Training for Age
Group Swimmers.
In her professional life, Dr. Cox is an Assistant
Scientist in the Department of Genetics & Southwest National Primate
Research Center at the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research.
