Coach Hay both swam and played water polo through high school and college at the University of Missouri.  As the Head Coach of the Seahawks Swim Team (Belleville, IL), Coach Hay became part of the Northside family, by being the age group coach of Kathy Barris (Marshall/Texas A&M), one of Northside's most decorated swimmers.

From the Seahawks, Coach Hay went to Metro Omaha, where he was named Midwestern Age Group Coach of the Year.  Stops with the Clemson (University club team) Aquatic Team and the Valdez (Alaska) Torpedoes brought him to Texas and the Rockwall YMCA.  At Rockwall, he qualified three swimmers to the YMCA Nationals.

At every stop, Coach Hay improved his teams both in size and quality, and developed swimmers to the national level.
