Junior Elite Coach, Kurt Swanson, is
the last of the original Northside coaches. Coach Swanson is a legendary
"team builder", having taken three different high schools to the State
Championship awards podium.
He began by taking John
Jay to a Third Place finish in the TISCA State Water Polo Championship.
Only a few years later, Coach Swanson built what many regard as the best
water polo team in Texas high school history at O.W. Holmes High School.
From there, he took the Tom C. Clark girls' team to a UIL State swimming
title. After a short stay in Laredo, Coach Swanson returned to NISD at Taft
High School, where he retired as the Head Swimming and Water Polo Coach.
In addition
to his many coaching achievements, Coach Swanson excelled as an athlete at
Cal State Fullerton. Along with earning degrees in both Physical Education
and History, he was an All-American swimmer and participated in the NCAA
Final Four in water polo for the legendary Olympic Coach, Ken Lindgren. |
