Senior Team Coach Bill Thomas began coaching in
1976. He has been working with the Northside Senior Team since 1987,
excluding a 3 year hiatus to the west coast.
He has coached well over 100 high school and NCAA
All-Americans, dozens of Junior National and Senior National Qualifiers,
individual National, Junior National and UIL State Champions, Olympic Trials
Qualifiers, two USA National Team Members, and six Olympic athletes
representing other nations. He was also coach of a Junior National
Championship Team.
From 2001-2005 he was Aquatics Coach at O'Connor High
School where his team captured the girls' District Swimming Title in 2005.
His O'Connor athletes have received 7 Swimming, 4 Water Polo and 8 Academic
All-American awards.
Coach Thomas is a Life Member of the American Swimming
Coaches Association and certified as a Level 4 Coach. He is also an
instructor for the ASCA Level 1 and 2 courses. He has been recognized by
the ASCA and the Counsilman Creative Coaching Awards for the development of
the Backstroke Canopy that can be seen at the Northside Aquatics Center
during the short course season.
A published author, Coach Thomas has written numerous
articles on coaching and leadership, as well as editing coaching curriculum
guides for swimming and water polo.
Coach
Thomas is a native of Oregon where he was a High School State Champion,
Collegiate All-American and National Qualifier in the freestyle. He holds a
Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Cameron University and
a Master of Science degree from Southern Oregon University in Secondary
Education. He has two daughters, Tara and Trista (both of whom were
accomplished swimmers in their own right), and three grandchildren. |
