December '07 Booster Meeting Minutes

1.  Vandalism in the 1604 Parking Lot:

  • A Clark parents noticed, early one morning, a very upset person in the parking lot.  She went to see if she could be of service and come to find out that it was our Night Custodian Ezekiel.  His car had been badly vandalized during the night.  Someone had rear-ended the back and not only smashed the trunk, but broke the back window and the back seat windows as well.  The culprits then proceeded to take a crowbar to try to get in the front.  The car was totaled.  To make matters worse, this was our custodian’s only form of transportation.  Ezekiel’s family has a toddler and his wife is expecting their 2nd baby, but is experiencing complications with her pregnancy and is unable to work.
  • The Booster Club Chairs (Eddie Olmo and Allen Morris ) will take $500.00 from our Booster Club to help them out Eddie and Allen will report back at the next meeting.
  • Booster Club Members present also made a suggestion to get the word out to all the teams to see if they would like to donate something additional.  Cash is always a good thing, but gift cards to places like HEB , Target or Wal-Mart would be great as well.  Parents and swimmers willing to donate something to Ezekiel's Family are asked to turn their gift to Coach Thomas or Coach Howorth.  Their baby boy was born Nov. 17th.  They have a little girl, age 5, in kindergarten.
  • You may wish to place it in a Christmas card and write a few words.  I know his family would appreciate it.  Our pool is always so clean and beautiful for our children in the morning and Ezekiel does such a great job.  I hope we can all chip in and help this family.
  • Coaches will be asked to talk to the kids about this as well.

2.  Meets at 1604:

  • Duel Meet on December 15th.
  • High school City Invitational on January 12th.
  • Club Meet - IMX/14 and under on January 18th & 19th.
  • UIL District Meet on January 26th.
  • Club Meet - STAGS from February 14th-17th.
  • Club Meet - C Championship Meet on Feb. 23rd.

3.  Parka Sales:

  • Parkas have been delivered and they look great!
  • We are still waiting on the large and XL parkas to arrive.
  • If anyone is still interested in ordering one, please go to the D&J website ( http://djsports.com/default.aspx).  They will honor the same prices ($85 for AAAA on the back and $95 for the full logo on the back).  You can add a name to the front at no extra cost.  Questions?  Please call Adrian at 366-9388 or email him at sanantonio@djsports.com.

4.  Thank you:

  • Thanks to Tim Louton and Rudy’s Bar-B-Q (they have 4 kids swimming at NISD, if I'm not mistaken) for donating those incredible coolers to the Booster Club.
  • Tim and his wife Christy have also agreed to chair Concessions this year.

5.  Pools Closing:

  • Our pools will be closed in March for maintenance.  Tentative dates are March 6th through the 23rd.  Coaches will provide more information as the time nears.

6.  High School Dance:

  • The Booster Club is looking at doing the high school dance (for high school only swimmers and club swimmers) sometime in March.  The date has not yet been set.  We are looking for parent volunteers and if you are interested in helping out, please contact Allen Morris at amorris1@satx.rr.com.

7.  Welcome Committee and Parent Education:

  • An idea was proposed to have a "Welcome Committee" of sorts for new families joining our pool.  We are open to suggestions and ideas as to what this position could be and we are looking for someone to Chair this committee.  If interested, please contact Eddie Olmo at eddie@stic.net or Allen Morris at amorris1@satx.rr.com.
  • We are also looking for ideas to help with Parent Education. If you have any topics you would like to discuss, please let us know. One suggestion is to do a small clinic on the importance of Hydration and Nutrition in swimming. We will be putting together information on that soon.

8.  STAGS - South Texas Championship Meet:

  • Hosting this meet has the potential of a profit for the Booster Club if things are planned out well.
  • We have 3 bids out right now for printing the program.  If you have an incredible printer that you think would give us an awesome price, please contact Eddie at eddie@stic.net.
  • Kelley Farwell (National/Sectional group and Taft parent) has drafted a letter to entice businesses to advertise in the program.  We will be sending it out to local businesses and restaurants.  If you know of a business that you think might be interested please contact Eddie with details (eddie@stic.net).
  • A copy of the solicitation letter is attached to these minutes.  We are also looking at a title sponsor.  Benefits of being a title sponsor include posting the business name on the covers (front and back) of the meet program.
  • We need one person to chair the timing committee.  If you would like to help out, please contact Eddie at (eddie@stic.net) or Allen Morris at amorris1@satx.rr.com.  If you have a contact your school’s NHS or NJHS please let Eddie or Allen know. Our goal is to set up those types of groups with volunteer service hours via timing throughout STAGS.  We would like to have the timers all lined up for this meet so that parents would not need to time.
  • The idea of renting tents for concessions and additional seating areas away from the pool deck was discussed.  Boosters is concerned that floor space will be minimal during a meet as big as STAGS.  Utilizing tents to run concessions and to offer an area to sit away from the meet would alleviate the congestion on the pool deck.  If you have any contacts in the party rental / event planning business please contact Eddie at eddie@stic.net or Allen Morris at amorris1@satx.rr.com.

As always, our meetings are set for the first Tuesday (410 Pool) and Thursday (1604 Pool) of the first full week of every month. The next dates we will meet are January 8th at 410 and January 10th at 1604 both from 6:30-7:30pm . Everyone is invited and welcome to attend.

Sincerely,

Allen Morris -410 Booster Chairman     and     Eddie Olmo-1604 Booster Chairman
