The Northside high school coaches met Friday night Oct. 5^th as the first step in planning the 2009 TISCA water polo season.

The coaches decided that we will play and practice over spring break.  This will make the spring season the identical length as the fall season.  Coaches will ask the water polo players to make the same commitment to spring break practice and competition that the soccer, baseball and softball players make.

On Easter Saturday, we will play a full schedule, but will not practice on Good Friday.

TAAKS was a concern, but if we had a spring season this year, TAAKS would be the week after State, so there would be no conflict.  We will deal with a TAAKS conflict if a problem arises.

The annual Cy Whinnery (coaches and players) Water Polo Clinic will be scheduled the weekend after the UIL State Meet.  It will be a 4-session clinic, limited to the first 40 boys and 40 girls to register.

The daily practice schedule will be a challenge until additional water comes on line.  We have enough water for 8 teams and will have 10 in the water in the fall. 

Each coordinator will be responsible for developing a plan for their site by 3 Nov 08.

The NISD Board of Trustees voted to request funding from Bexar County to complete the planned National Swimming Center .  This would create enough water to serve 14 high school teams!  We need to thank our Board of Trustees and encourage our County Commissioners to include the National Swim Center in their plans.

Other opportunities that we could use were also discussed.  One of the most interesting was the ability to hold 8^th grade tryouts during spring tournaments.

This plan will be reviewed as a part of our Strategic Planning process in October ’07, March ’08, August ’08, and October ’08.  After each review, we will put updates on the website, with the final 2009 schedule posted by Thanksgiving 2008.
