Students work in groups of two to complete the Desert Research Field Guide. These documents are located below as pdf (print-ready files) and as Word documents in the event you want to download and edit the document.

Student partners will research the same animal and learn about different aspects of that desert animal. The first student will complete the top portion of the Research Field Guide while the second student will work on the bottom portion of the page in the lab.

Documents as pdf files:

Documents as Word files:
Word: Desert Research Field Guide in English Word: Desert Research Field Guide in Spanish

Students will take notes in the field guide by clicking on the links for the animals. The link takes the students to a Powerpoint show that provides basic facts about the animal. Each line of text is recorded so that students can see and hear the words.

Students come to the lab for one day of research. On their next visit they will draw their animal with related information from their research. For example, student who studied about the home or habitat of the elf owl, would then draw an elf owl in its home for his or her slide.

The students' Kid Pix images are combined into a Powerpoint slide show with related comments from the students.

The culmination of this WebQuest is to share the PowerPoint and research with parents and community through a presentation.
