Introducing the Counselors
(Your children will recognize them as the women who tell them about Kelso and how to solve their own problems.)

Cindi Beere
and
Freida Donzis
The Guidance program is comprised of 4 components which include: Guidance Curriculum, Responsive Services, Individual Planning, and System Support.
Guidance lessons are taught in every classroom for 45 minutes every other week. The lessons deal with the following topics: Responsible Behavior, Decision-Making and Problem Solving, Motivation to Achieve, Self-Esteem Development, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Communication Skills, and Cross-Cultural Effectiveness. Lessons are presented by using books, videos, puppets, music, art, and class discussion.
If you would like to see
the list of materials that we use in your child's grade level with a brief
description of the material, click on the grade level that is below this
explanation. On that webpage is a list of the materials that we might use
with your child's class in our guidance lessons. Anything with an
asterick usually indicates that it is used for small groups and/or when there
is a special need for a class to have a topic discussed. Also, materials
used in a lower grade level may be used for an upper grade level. The materials
listed are not all inclusive. We sometimes will use books or videos that
are in the library or at Region XX.
We also offer small guidance groups and see students individually dealing with peer relationships, behavior, stress, self-esteem, friendship, grief, divorce, etc.
Mrs. Donzis works with Kinder, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders while Mrs. Beere works with 1st and 5th graders. We consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance the work of your child. If you need to get in touch with one of us, please feel free to call Mrs. Donzis at ext. 2005 and Mrs. Beere at ext. 2006.
For parents who are interested, the library has a variety of Love and Logic Parenting materials for parents to check out.
Our school participates in
Northside ISD's Goal
Setting Program. The classroom teachers conduct classroom meetings at
least once a week. Ms. Alkire, a fifth grade teacher, is the facilitator
for our school.
