A comprehensive basic course designed to introduce beginning students to global agriculture. The course includes agricultural career ­development, leadership, communications, and personal finance.

Applied Agricultural Science and Technology (9-12)

A comprehensive basic applied course designed to enhance the agricultural comprehension of beginning students. The course includes soils, plants, animals, agricultural construction, food science, supervised occupational experience programs, and leadership.

AGRICULTURE BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Advanced Agribusiness Management and Marketing (10-12)

This is a technical course designed to introduce and enhance comprehension of students in the following: economic systems and principle budgeting, record keeping, finance, risk management, business law, marketing and use of computers and software.

Prerequisite:    None     Semester: 1 Credit: ½

Agribusiness Management and Marketing (10-12)

A technical course designed to introduce the student to agribusiness management in the free enterprise system. Course includes a study of economic principles, budgeting, recordkeeping, finance, risk management, business law, marketing, and careers in agribusiness.

Prerequisite:    None    Semester: 1 Credit: 1/2

Agricultural Communications (10-12)

A technical course designed to improve the student’s communication skills in agriculture. Students are provided knowledge and insight into written, spoken, and visual communications skills and techniques, and their relationship to agriculture. Included are careers, leadership, and SAEP.

Computer Applications in Agriculture (10-12)

This is a technical course designed to provide training in utilization of electronic information and data technology in the production, processing, management, and marketing of agricultural commodities.

Prerequisite:    None     Semester: 2 Credit: 1/2

Diversified Agriculture (10-12)

A technical course that emphasizes selecting, producing, and marketing diversified enterprises. Course includes recordkeeping, integrated systems, career opportunities, and leadership.

Prerequisite:    None    Semester: 1 Credit: 1/2

Entrepreneurship in Agriculture (10-12)

Course includes business ownership, insurance, human resource management, application of computers, capital resources and agriculture business planning.

Prerequisite:    None   Semester: 2 Credit: 1/2

Personal Skills Development in Agriculture (10-12)

A comprehensive technical course in developing agricultural leadership, citizenship, and cooperation. It includes topics in personal development, employee/employer relations, and group and interpersonal communication skills.

Prerequisite:    None    Semester: 1 Credit: 1/2

Agribusiness Career Preparation (Cooperative Training) (11-12)

Students must maintain part-time employment in an approved agriculture training slot and attend school at least three times per day.

AGRICULTURE MECHANICS

Introduction to Agriculture Mechanics (10-12)

A comprehensive course that is shop/laboratory-oriented and includes the essential elements and the concepts and skills related to the introduction to agricultural mechanics. The student will be able to use hand/power tools and measuring devices. They will have the opportunity to develop basic electric wiring, plumbing, concrete foundation, carpentry, painting, welding, cutting, and cold metal trade skills.

Prerequisite:    None    Semester: 1 Credit: 1/2

Agricultural Electronics (10-12)

Technical course designed to enforce and extend students’ knowledge of mathematical and scientific principles and concepts involved in producing and controlling electronic impulses, and to provide them with generic workplace skills relevant to electronic applications in agriculture.

Prerequisite:    None   Semester: 1 Credit: 1/2

Agricultural Metal Fabrication Technology (10-12)

A shop/laboratory-oriented course that includes the essential elements and the concepts and skills related to agricultural metal fabrication technology. Basic welding, sheet metal, and manufacturing techniques are studied.

Prerequisite:    None  Semester: 1 Credit: ½

Agricultural Power Technology (10-12)

Technical course designed to develop skills in selection, operation, and maintenance of small air-cooled engines, multi-cylinder engines, ­hydraulic motors, electric motors, and agricultural machinery and tractors.

Prerequisite:    None   Semester: 2 Credit: ½

Agricultural Structures Technology (10-12)

A technical course preparing students to maintain, evaluate, design, and build agricultural structures using approved construction techniques.

Prerequisite:    None   Semester: 1 Credit: 1/2

Agricultural Mechanics (11-12)

A pre-employment lab course that prepares students to select, operate, maintain, service, and use power units, machinery, equipment, structures, and utilities. Includes planning and selection of materials, mechanical practices associated with irrigation, water management, irrigation systems, land measuring, and leveling.

Prerequisite:    Any semester Agriculture Mechanics class    Semester: 2 Credit: 1-2

Agricultural Power and Machinery (11-12)

A comprehensive pre-employment laboratory-oriented course designed to develop skills in the maintenance, repair and recondition of agricultural vehicles and machinery. The course emphasizes basic principles of operation, while including modern, high-tech components, systems monitors, on-board computers, etc.

PRODUCTION AGRICULTURE

Introduction to Horticultural Sciences (10-12)

A cluster course designed to introduce students to horticulture sciences with emphasis on technical skills, entrepreneurship, and occupational opportunities.

Animal and Plant Production (10-12)

A cluster course that includes principles of animal and plant production as it relates to farming and ranching. The course teaches students the importance of fundamentals of soil use and land management.

Prerequisite:    None    Semester: 1 Credit: 1/2

Animal Science (10-12)

A technical course designed to develop knowledge and skills pertaining to the nutrition, reproduction, health, and management of domestic animals.

Prerequisite:    None   Semester: 1 Credit: 1/2

Equine Science (10-12)

A course designed to develop knowledge and skills pertaining to the selection, nutrition, reproduction, health, and management of horses.

PLANT & SOIL SCIENCE

Food Technology (10-12)

A comprehensive course in the importance of world food production as it relates to the processing, preparing and packaging of foods according to government regulations. The course will explore occupations in the area of food processing.

Fruit, Nut, and Vegetable Production (10-12)

A course designed to provide skills necessary to develop and maintain enterprises concerned with the production of fruit, nuts, and vegetables.

Wildlife and Recreation Management   (10-12)

A technical course designed to examine the importance of wildlife and outdoor recreation with emphasis on using wildlife and natural resources.

Prerequisite: None  Semester: 1 Credit: 1/2

Horticulture Pre-Lab (11-12)

A   pre-employment lab course that prepares students to produce, process horticultural plants used principally for ornamental, recreational, and aesthetic purposes and to establish, maintain, and manage horticultural enterprises.   Includes structures, machinery, and equipment necessary for each horticultural enterprise.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

Floral Design and Interior Landscape (10-12)

A comprehensive course that includes how to design and arrange live, dried and silk flower arrangements. The course includes how to grow and maintain plants which are used in the home and office buildings.

Home Maintenance and Improvement (10-12)

A cluster course designed to prepare students to improve and maintain the urban and rural home and adjacent buildings. Students are prepared to analyze repair needs and use approved safety techniques.

Prerequisite:    LPAC approval  Semester: 1 Credit: ½

Landscape Design (10-12)

A laboratory-oriented course that includes the essential elements and the concepts and skills related to landscape design, construction, and maintenance.
