Apparel (9-12)
This course focuses on apparel, the fashion industry, and career
preparation. Topics include managing the apparel dollar, clothing
alterations, wardrobe planning, and ready-made clothes. Other content

Career Studies (9-12)
This course explores factors influencing career choices and demonstrates employability skills that lead to career success. Content includes career opportunities in early childhood education, human services, consumerism, the hospitality industry, fashion and apparel industries, interior design, nutrition and wellness. Hands on experiences in the occupationally specific training areas may be provided.

Child Development (9-12)
This course focuses on the development, care, guidance, and protection of children. Instruction focuses on physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of the infant, toddler, pre-school, and school-aged child. Other topics include prenatal care, childbirth, special needs children, and quality child care.

Housing (9-12)
This course focuses on the management of family housing
needs, housing and the environment, and career prepare and
financial aspects of housing, home safety and maintenance, space
utilization, factors affecting basic housing construction features.
Other topics are interior and exterior environmental issues, impact
of housing decisions on managing multiple family, community, and
career roles; career options; and housing trends for the future.

Individual and Family Life (9-12)
This course addresses personal identity, living as
an independent adult, relationships, sexual responsibility, and
factors related to marital success. Special attention is given
to the impact of the family on individuals and society, strengthening
the family unit and developing skills needed to manage multiple
roles one faces in today’s society.

Nutrition and Food Science (9-12)
This course concentrates on nutrition, food choices,
and food management skills. Instruction includes food habits and
wellness, menu planning, special dietary needs, food costs and
budgeting, food safety, sanitation procedures, food labels, and
food labs.

Personal and Family Development (9-12)
This course is designed for study of the family structure as it
related to all areas of living including food and nutrition, clothing
and textiles, consumer buying, housing and home furnishings, family/interpersonal
relations and child care.

Preparation for Parenting (9-12)
This course provides opportunities to develop knowledge
and skills in preparation to function effectively as a future care
giver. Content stresses parental responsibilities, child guidance,
and parenting practices which promote a child’s development
health, safety and well-being. Topics also included are: managing
family crises, sexual health and responsibility and career preparation.

Food Production & Management Services (10-12)
This class includes a study of careers in the food
industry, from table service to chef training, fast food to elegant
dining. Information on various phases of the industry will be highlighted
by field trips. Internships at local restaurants and other food
service establishments may be included. Food production will be
included highlighting a wide range of meals, buffets, catering,
and evaluation of finished products.

Early Childhood Professions I & II
(11-12) (Internship)
This Tech Prep course is an introduction to the broad
number of careers in child development. Theories will be studied
and observed in a variety of settings ranging from pre-kindergarten
to child development centers. Students rotate throughout the school
year at off-campus training sites. Up to 10 hours of college credit
may be earned upon completion of the college requirements.

Fashion Design (11-12)
The course is a detailed study of the fashion industry.
A variety of activities include: custom sewing, fashion design
and illustration, pattern making garment assembly, alterations,
cost analysis, business ethics, personal color analysis, fashion

Family and Consumer Science Career Preparation
(CO-OP) (11-12)
FCSCP prepares individuals for employment in a home
economics career. Students spend one hour in class each day and
a minimum of 15 hours on the job each week. Some of the home economics
employment areas include: clothing and home furnishings, child
care, food service, hotel and hospitality services.

Hospitality/Tourism Internship
This course will expose students to the total scope of the hospitality industry. Students will spend time at training sites such as conference centers, travel agencies, and theme parks with a major emphasis on local hotels. Rotations will include training in the various aspects of the hotel and hospitality industry.

Ready, Set, Teach! (11-12)
This course is a field-based internship which provides students
a background knowledge of child and adolescent development principles
as well as principles of effective teaching. Students in the class
plan and direct individualized instruction and group activities,
prepare instructional materials, assist with record keeping, make
physical arrangements, and complete other responsibilities of classroom
teachers. The students are involved in observations as well as
direct student instruction.
