Clark 's ESOL program is based on the philosophy that second language acquisition is a developmental process that integrates listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in the context of academic learning. The Newcomer ESOL Academic Team (N.E.A.T.) at Clark High school is a collaborative team comprised of administrators, counselors, SIOP© trained teachers, and a parent tutor. All N.E.A.T team members work closely together to ensure that the ESOL students' instructional, cultural, and emotional needs are met. N.E.A.T . team members recognize that language is embedded within a culture and they customize instruction for the various levels of English proficiency and educational backgrounds.
