In this treasure hunt you will become familiar with Google Earth and the Modern Seven Wonders of the World. You will work with a partner and use Google Earth and the Internet resources listed to answer the research questions that follow. When you have finished, answer the Big Question that asks you to combine a lot of what you learned through the treasure hunt into a "big picture."
Find a picture on the Internet (the World Book source below would be good to use) of your favorite of these 7 wonders and import this picture next to your placemark.
Find the Golden Gate Bridge
What city and state is it located in?
What is the latitude and longitude of Alcatraz Island, located to the east of the bridge?(The closer you zoom in, the more accurate the answer.)
What highway number is the bridge?
Put a placemark at this location and save the Google Earth picture of the location. (Placemarks can be saved to a folder in order to be able to use them again or on another machine. Refer to the directions in the manual.)
Find the Empire State building. Turn on the 3-D building feature. Zoom and use the tilt feature to better see the building in comparison to the buildings around it.
What city and state is it located in?
How many floors does the building have? (research)
What is the height of the building? (research)
Measure the distance from here to the Golden Gate Bridge.
Put a placemark at this location and save the Google Earth picture of the location.
Find the Channel Tunnel. (Put English Channel in the fly to box)

What body of water does it go under? (research)
Put a placemark at this location and save the Google Earth picture of the location.
Find the CN Tower.
Where is it located? City and Country
What is the significance of this tower? (research)
What US state is it closest to?
Put a placemark at this location and save the Google Earth picture of the location.
Find Itaipu Dam (Put Itaipu Paraguay in the fly to box)
What two countries is it between? (research)
What continent is it on?
Find Delta Works (Put North Sea in the fly to box)

After all placemarks have been placed, you can run your tour.
Create either a Photo Story or PowerPoint of your Google Earth pictures (saved from Google Earth) of each of the seven wonders. Include a title and the answers to each question for each of the wonders. Explain why you think each of these wonders was chosen as a wonder. The title and answers may be audio or text. You must have a bibliography at the end of the show.
