Copying and Pasting provides an easy way to copy portions of text from a Web page to a word processing document, but it is extremely important to be careful not to plagiarize information.

How to Recognize Plagiarizing

PRACTICE: Copying and Pasting and Paraphrasing

Go to http://www.mysanantonio.com
Select the first headline story and click on it

Highlight the first four paragraphs and copy and paste to Word (Directions below)
Double space below what was just copied into Word
Paraphrase the four paragraphs using your own words.
Type your name at the top of the paper--print and turn in to your teacher

1. Select the first sentence using your mouse (click and drag)
2. Click EDIT from the Menu Bar; click the COPY command
3. Use the Minimize button to move this Web page to the Windows Taskbar
4. Launch Microsoft Word
5. A new Word document is now open and ready to accept your text
6. Click EDIT from the Menu Bar; click the PASTE command
7. Minimize Word
8. Maximize Explorer from the Windows Taskbar
9. Use the COPY command to copy the URL address in the Location box
10. Minimize Explorer
11. Maximize Word from the Windows Taskbar
12. Paste the URL site under the sentence in the open Word document
13. Leave the Word document open - we'll use it later
