CONTENT AREA: English

GRADE LEVEL: IV

TOPIC: Historical Periods in Literature

CONTENT OBJECTIVE(S):

      1. The student will understand the important events of the period in literature
      2. The student will understand the contributions of important writers of the period
      3. The student will locate information on the period using the Internet, library and textbook
      4. The student will use the scanner or digital camera for graphics
      5. The student will demonstrate their knowledge to the class using a PowerPoint presentation
SUBJECT AREA TEKS: Write in a variety of forms, develop drafts collaboratively, use technology for aspects of creating and publishing , combine information from primary and secondary sources using available technology, organize notes in useful and informative ways, interpret the possible influences of the historical context on literature, produce visual representations

TECHNOLOGY TEKS: Internet Research, Multimedia Presentation (PowerPoint), Scanner and Digital Camera

RESOURCES/MATERIALS:

    1. Internet (computer lab or library)
    2. Library research
    3. Textbook
    4. Scanner/Camera
    5. PowerPoint Software
    6. Television/Scan Converter
    7. VCR to record presentation
LESSON PROCEDURE:
    1. Introduce the six historical periods to the class
    2. Divide the class into 6 groups
    3. Use the Internet and other sources to do research
    4. Using PowerPoint, students will create a show emphasizing important events of the period and important writers of the period (at least one slide of each event and each writer would be recommended)  Each student in the group should do 2-3 of the slides.  The slides can then be merged into one slide show--Directions will be given for merging the slides.
    ASSESSMENT: Link to Rubric Sample in PDF format Queen Victoria
    1. Did the student have accurate information?
    2. Did the student have enough information?
    3. Did the student analyze the period?
    4. Did the student create an accurate and interesting slide show? This will be graded with a rubric.
    5. Did the student have a complete sources sited slide?
