SAVE THE AMAZON PROJECT

The environmental, ecological and cultural destruction of the Amazon has become a major geographical problem for Brazil, Venezuela and other South American countries. In recent years, many international organizations have sponsored campaigns, protests, and research projects to end this destruction in the hope of preserving one of the world's greatest natural resources.

You will create your own organization that will campaign for or against one of the following geographical problems associated with the Amazon.

Problem
1	Destruction of Forests (Deforestation=Global Warming, Greenhouse Effect)
2	Destruction of Animal Habitat (Loss of Biodiversity; Animal Rights)
3	Displacement of Indigenous Peoples (Loss of Culture; Poverty of Indians)
4	Strip Mining (Deforestation; Mercury Pollution: Smoke Pollution)
5	Destruction of Medicinal Plants (Loss of Potential Cures; Plant Remedies)
NEXT	AFTER Deciding which problem you will address, you will be required to:
1	Make a Campaign poster which should include the following information
2	Define and give reasons why the Amazon is important in world geography
3	List the consequences if the issue is not addressed
4	The name of your organization
5	Design the symbol of your campaign or organization (You may use computer software to design the symbol)
6	Use illustrations or pictures representing your geographical concern (You may use pictures taken from the Internet)

If you decide to campaign for deforestation, and the displacement of indigenous peoples, you must answer the questions above accordingly and defend your position!
This project may be done alone or with a partner. If you decide to do it in collaboration with another person, the expectations will be much higher. Keep this in mind when choosing how to approach this project.
Be sure to include all requirements of the exercise when you turn in the final poster. Feel free to bring in any outside information that you may acquire including Internet sources with the appropriate bibliography.
This will count as a test grade, so make the most of your class time and computer time.
