Teachers want to reach students in deep and
meaningful ways, to find new approaches to the subject matter in order
to engage, motivate, and inspire young minds. But
who has time to learn new skills, ideas and methods?!?
Online
staff development can provide an array of self-paced courses
designed to help educators learn and grow professionally. Credit
and non-credit courses are available to educators on diverse topics
such as Classroom and Student Management, Parent Involvement, Curriculum
& Instruction, ESL, and Technology.
While some online
staff development courses are free, many require a fee as e-learning
is rapidly evolving into a lucrative enterprise. However, the costs
may not be so great, when you consider just a few of the advantages:
- No time spent commuting to class
- No travel costs
- You can learn when you need it (Just-In-Time)
- Your learning options are not constrained
by your geographic location
- You can learn at your own pace
- Learning can be fit into your busy schedule
- Can be more effective for certain types
of learners (shy, reflective, language challenged, those that need
more time)
- Can be more focused on the learner and less
on the instructor
- Can lower costs for both learning providers
and organizations that need training
- Often less costs for students than traditional
programs
- Side benefits of learning new technologies
and technical skills
