Basic literacy - Language proficiency (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) using conventional and technology-based media

Composite - A type of video capture; results in good quality video

Curltural literacy - A recognition and appreciation of the diversity of peoples and cultures

Digital graphics - Highly stylized images created and edited on a computer for use in printed and electronic media; also called presentation graphics

Digital media - A discipline based on the creative union of technology and art for the purpose of human expression, communication and social interaction

Firewire - A trademarked brand of IEEE 1394 video capure technology

Graphic design - Concepts and principles of art and design that visually enhance a printed or electronic product

IEEE 1394 - A type of video capture; results in the best quality video when compared to composite and s-video

i-link - A trademarked brand of IEEE 1394 video capure technology

Information literacy - The competence to find, evaluate, and make use of information appropriately

Info-tactics - Media used to persuade, rather than to inform, by selling us images of ourselves, or what our lives could be like, if we buy a specific product

Internet - A worldwide network that includes the World Wide Web, e-mail, File Transfer Protocols, threaded discussions, electronic databases, etc.

Internet Activity Structures - Web pages that focus learning, including hotlists, subject samplers, multimedia scrapbooks, treasure hunts, and Webquests

Literacy - Knowledge, education, competence and skills in a specific area; six types of literacy are basic, cultural, technological, visual, scientific, information

Lynx - A trademarked brand of IEEE 1394 video capure technology

Multimedia - Integration of several forms of media, such as text, graphics, animations, video, sound, etc.; all media can be categorized as voice, video, data, or print

Net Generation - Young people born in or after 1980, most of whom have grown up surrounded by technology

Presentation graphics - Highly stylized images created and edited on a computer for use in printed and electronic media; also called digital graphics

Scientific literacy - Knowledge of science, scientific thinking, mathematics, and the relationships between science, mathematics, and technology

Streaming media - Audio or video that begins to play on your computer before it is entirely downloaded

S-video - A type of video capture; results in better quality video than composite

Technological literacy - Competence in the use of computers, networks, and applications

Threaded discussion - A "bulletin board" concept for e-mail messages; messages can be sorted according to replies/responses

Video capture - Getting a single video clip from a VCR or video camera into a computer-readable form

Video production - "Movie making" - Telling a story by arranging and editing a series of video clips, then adding transitions, special effects, titles, still images, voice narrations, music, etc.; almost always involves audio editing

Visual literacy - The ability to decipher, interpret, and express ideas using images, graphics, icons, charts, graphs, and video
