| Learning Objectives: Students will read and study the
classic American novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, and participate in various
technology-based activities to guide their understanding. Activities will
include: an Internet treasure hunt to help build background knowledge
prior to reading; webbing via Inspiration, which includes: character web,
comparison web, and literary web; viewing and analyzing clips from the
movie To Kill A Mockingbird as a means of comparing and contrasting the
movie with the novel; and the creation and presentation of group
Powerpoint projects as a culminating activity related to the novel's
themes. |
| Student Activity 1: Students will complete Scout's
World: Searching for Clues - An Internet Treasure Hunt to help build
background knowledge prior to reading. Students will work in the computer
lab for three 50-minute periods to complete the treasure hunt. Students
will record their answers on a handout, which includes the questions.
|
| Student Assessment: Teacher observation related to
on-task behavior in lab; standardized assessment on correct/incorrect
answers to handout (quality of The Big Question could be factored into
handout score, but The Big Question has no right or wrong answer). |
