Advisory Committees

Northside ISD has a variety of advisory committees whose members include community members, parents, and staff. Members of the committees provide input and feedback to school and Central Office administrators and the Board of Trustees.

Gifted & Talented Enrichment Advisory Council

The Northside ISD Gifted/Talented Enrichment Advisory Council is a group of volunteer parents and educators that meets quarterly, alongside district Gifted/Talented and Advanced Academic staff. This diverse group works to facilitate communication between parents, staff, the school board, as well as the community, in matters pertaining to the district's services for Gifted and Talented students. We hope to improve the quality of services district-wide.

The mission of the G/T Enrichment Advisory Council is to enhance the opportunities and experiences of Northside Students by sharing resources with parents and by expanding public opinion and awareness through communications, and by providing funds for grants and specialized GT projects.

The GTEAC iGniTe Fund was established to provide NISD G/T teachers with supplemental funding above and beyond the provisions of the regular NISD budget for resources, supplies, and other items that will enhance the NISD ALPHA Program.

Support GT classrooms by donating to our iGniTe fund. This fund offers grants to classroom GT teachers to purchase items to use with their GT students.

Northside Educational Improvement Council

The Northside Educational Improvement Council (NEIC) is the district decision-making committee established in accordance with Texas Education Code Section 11.251, and 11.252. The purpose of NEIC is to involve professional staff, parents, and community members in establishing and reviewing the district's and campuses' educational plans, goals, performance objectives, and major classroom instructional programs.

Its 32 members are made up of staff who are elected for a two-year term by staff peers and parents, business, and community members who are appointed by the Board for a one or two-year term.

School Health Advisory Council

School Health Advisory Councils assist school districts in ensuring that local community values are reflected in health education instruction, and play an important role in strengthening the connection between health and learning. The SHAC acts in an advisory capacity, sending its recommendations to the Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction who reports to the Superintendent who reports to the Board.

Members are those who are representative of the population and have demonstrated:

  • committed to quality health education for the children of the Northside community
  • interest in youth
  • awareness of the community
  • professional ability
  • willingness to devote the necessary time

In School Health Advisory Council: A Guide for Texas School Districts (Publication N. E05-12431), the Texas Department of State Health Services provides school staff and community members with basic information about the value of SHACs in creating a healthy school environment for students.
