NISD accepts the
“Go!Kids Challenge.”
NISD, along with 18 other Bexar County school districts, joined the San Antonio Sports Foundation in launching the second annual Diamond Shamrock Go!Kids Challenge on Sept. 29. The program motivates children in grades K-5 to walk one-fourth mile a day, record their mileage in a special journal, eventually reaching a marathon distance of 26.2 miles in 19 weeks.
Children at Locke Hill Elementary School kicked-off Go!Kids Challenge day with performances by the Clark High School cheerleaders and local acrobatic gymnasts. They were then cheered on by members of the Clark High School football team, many of whom are mentors to Locke Hill students.
The Go!Kids Challenge was developed to provide children with an introduction to the importance of routine exercise and proper nutrition for the development of a healthy lifestyle. The program concludes on Dec. 5, 2004 with a Go!Kids Rally at the Alamodome where participants will receive medals and t-shirts for achieving their goals.
