Chapter Meetings

  • Attendance at monthly chapter meetings is MANDATORY.
  • Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month. Meeting times are at 8:15, 5th period lunch (12:40), and 4:15 in the Lecture Hall. Meetings last 15-20 minutes. DO NOT BE LATE. Arrangements should be made in advance with coaches, sponsors, employers, etc.
  • If absent from a chapter meeting, it is the member's responsibility to turn in a written excuse to an adviser within seven calendar days of the meeting. Failure to submit the written excuse or obtain a written excuse from the appropriate authority figure within the allotted time will result in an unexcused absence and one penalty point.

Service (begins spring semester for new members)
Community service is defined as service/community activities that are done OUTSIDE of school time for or on behalf of others (family, friends, or neighbors are NOT included) for which no compensation (monetary or other) has been given, e.g., church groups or clubs/organizations sponsored outside the school.

Individual Service Points

  • Each member must earn at least 14 individual service points per semester; one service point is equivalent to one-half hour of service. Service done during the summer does NOT count towards fall service points.
  • Members must use the Service Points Form to document service points and should retain a copy for personal records. At the end of each semester, members must submit the documentation to the NHS office by the specified date.
Chapter Service Points
  • Each member must earn at least 8 chapter service points per semester; one service point is equivalent to one-half hour of service.
  • Various c hapter service opportunities are each month. Chapter service points are documented and maintained by the Chapter Point Secretary.

Any member not meeting the individual and/or chapter service point requirements is required to make up the remaining service points plus a penalty of 4 service points within the first grading period of the next semester. Failure to do so will result in the student being placed on probation for a specified period of time. If the service points are not made up by the end of the probationary period, the student may be dismissed from the chapter.
