James
Buchanan graduated
from Angelo State University with a B.A. in Speech and Theatre. He received a
Master of Science degree from Texas A&M at Kingsville in
Educational Administration. James taught theatre and speech
for 25 years and for ten years was the Theatre Director at
Taft High School.
In
1999 Buchanan was honored by the University of Texas, receiving
an Excellence in Teaching Award. Buchanan also has been named the
Texas Speech Teacher of the Year and Southern (9 state region)
Teacher of the Year, as well as Teacher of the Year at Midland
Texas and for Northside, and in 1996, a Distinguished Educator
by Trinity University. He has directed numerous state and national
champion individual speech events as well as winning UIL District
one-act play 18 times and placing at state 8 years. He has directed
and acted for film, television, radio, and the professional stage
from Los Angeles to New York to Europe. Buchanan has written 14
plays that have been produced across the US and Europe. He has
traveled in 25 countries. One of his most exciting summers was
spent teaching humanities, history of film, and introduction to
speech at the Navajo Tribal College at Tsaile, Arizona.
James
loves to spend time with his nephews, Brandon (10 years old) and
Dustin (5 years old) Cummings.

Windy Barker

Windy
Barker graduated from the University
of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Music Education
and a Master of Science in English. She later received a
Master of Education in Education Administration from Trinity
University in San Antonio. She has taught English at the
middle school, high school, and college levels, as well as
fine arts, special education, and a gifted and talented program
in middle schools. She comes to Communications Arts from
Taft High School, where she coordinated the Ninth Grade Success
Initiative.
Barker
has written for a variety of media, having work published in
newspapers and magazines. She has written descriptive texts for
movies for visually impaired audiences, and writes and produces
the Community Events Calendar for Texas Public Radio.
Believing
that laughter is an essential element of every day, Barker shares
her home with her husband and two children.

Donna
Roberts
Principal's Secretary, Bookkeeper

Mrs.
Roberts and her family moved to San Antonio in 1987
from their home town of Tucson, Arizona. She has worked for
NISD the past 18 years. Mrs. Roberts taught Arts & Crafts
for 13 years for NISD Adult Community Education. She was Principal's
Secretary/Bookkeeper at Northside Children's Center for two
years before joining Communications Arts three years ago.
Mrs
Roberts is the glue that holds us together.
