VI Advanced Placement
Spanish
VI is both an Advanced Placement and an Honors class. The student prepares
for the Advanced Placement Exam
in
Spanish literature. The student
may earn credits for the college he will attend by taking the Advanced Placement
test and/or by his grade in the class. The number of credits awarded is determined
by the college the student attends. The student studies, interprets and analyzes
literature in the Spanish language. He/she reads a wide variety of genres
of literature that are chosen for their appeal to students and for their
appropriate length. Students study significant literary works in the authentic
editions. The works have intrinsic literary value and are thematically related.
The works are readily available in anthologies or on the Internet. Students
learn to relate the culture revealed in the literary work to that country’s
culture and other peoples and cultures. Students make connections with other
subject areas and literature in other languages to broaden their literary
experience. Students communicate in Spanish, develop insights into the nature
of language and cultures through comparisons and participate in communities
at home and around the world as they explore Spanish literature. Students
do not have to take the Advanced Placement exam but are encouraged to do
so.
