Watch
and review
two films that you have not seen before. They must be:
- one
foreign film with subtitles, and
-
one film made before 1970 (from
any country)
This
assignment is meant to challenge you to view films
that you might not ordinarily watch. Avoid choosing films which everyone
has already seen many times (e.g., The Wizard of Oz). Also,
be aware that we will be watching and analyzing Modern Times
and Citizen Kane in class this year, so you might not want to
view them this summer.
Use
the handout you received from Mr. Villela or download the handout
HERE to
write a review of each film. Be prepared to present your two
reviews as a speech to the class on the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.
Your
two reviews must include all of the following information about each
film:
- the
title
- the
director
- the
year it was released
- the
country in which your film was made
- a
VERY SHORT summary of the film's plot (please do not spoil the ending)
- a
description of at least one of the following elements of the film
that you appreciated:
- lighting
- editing
- costumes
- set
design
- sound
(including sound effects and soundtrack music composed for the
film)
- special
effects
- whether
or not you would recommend this film to others and why
