Clayton Lillard, a 7th grade student at Hobby Middle School, was awarded the 2002 Governor's Volunteer Award. Chosen from over 600 nominees across the state of Texas, Clayton received the only youth award (out of nine awards presented) for his work in restoring old and used bicycles to give to underprivileged children. Clayton's "Backyard Crew," a group of volunteers he formed when he was only 10-years-old, has restored over 400 bikes to date.
