Character Assembly
Character Assembly

Our third Character Assembly was held on Friday, Feb. 1.

Elrod's Character Assembly is held each 9 weeks to honor students who show excellent citizenship skills.

This is an outstanding honor that distinguishes students as leaders and roll models.

Bill Taylor, KENS 5 Weatherman, joined us in giving out medals to each honored student, plus inspired students with a motivational speech. Mr. Elrod also attended and shook hands with as many students as he could.

The Valentine Card Kits include all the makings for personalized valentines, including hearts, doilies, sprinkles, stickers, and even the glue and scissors. Schoolwide, all classes are in valentine contest to raise funds to help all the RMcD Houses. Each class is also making a Big Heart Valentine to let the residents know we care for the children to create their own Valentines for family and fiend. Multicultural Presentations - Nov. 14, 2007
Elrod students, in grades 2-5, had the opportunity to learn about many other cultures recently. Men and women came from the Defense Language Institute at Lackland AFB representing various countries around the world. These men and women are studying the English language at Lackland AFB to become better teachers in their native countries. They talked to Elrod students in 2-5 grades to improve their English speaking skills. They taught students about their native land.

Every year Elrod sponsors Geography T-shirt Day to practice in and enrich geography skills. We invite the entire school, both students and staff, to dress in T-shirts from any where in the world. Teachers plan geography activities. Some classes record data from all the shirts worn. The whole school looks forward to this project!

Below is our VP, Mr. Garcia, with 2nd grade students showing T-shirts from around the world they wore today, Nov. 13 - Elrod's Geography T-shirt Day!

Elrod students were trained on school bus evacuation Oct. 17. Before the bus evacuation lesson, after morning broadcast, students watched a 10 minute video demonstrating what to do in case of a school bus emergency. Later that day, all classes climbed aboard school buses and learned first hand, school bus evacuation. In 6 months, head bus driver/trainer, Mr. Soto, will bring his crew back again for a refresher course. Thank you NISD Transportation Dept. for this wonderful, life saving opportunity for all our students!

Elrod's annual Fall Book Fair was a HUGE success! A big thank you goes out to all our volunteers who helped us run the book fair. We couldn't do it with out you. Elrod holds 2 book fairs per year to raise funds for the library so our librarian, Mrs. Colvin, can earn for free and purchase new books and invite authors and story tellers to our school for our students' enjoyment. (We also host a "Holiday Shop & Book Fair" the first week in Dec. to raise funds for technology and library needs. Be on the look out!)

As Elrod Eagles joined hands, Sept. 11, 2007, we honored those whose lives were taken on our American soil in terrorist acts against our citizens the 11th of Sept., 2001, just 6 short years ago. We remember those who suffered, those who were lost and the brave who came to the rescue. Just as we stood together then, we stand together now.
