Mr. Ray Proa, Elrod Guidance Counselor, retires after 30+ years in education.
Jimmy L. Elrod Elementary School's 21st Anniversary Celebration
Elrod celebrated it's 21st year in existence on May 14th, 2009, by hosting an anniversary/birthday
CELEBRATION! The entire Elrod community was invited including NISD central office personal,
including our Superintendent, Dr. Folks, former administration, staff and alumni. Contents from
a 1999 time capsule and contents for a new time-capsule (to be buried May 2009 and not to be opened
for another 20 years) were on display. Everyone had a glorious, family feeling, fun-filled time!
Fiesta is a San Antonio tradition and with that, so it is a tradtion at Elrod.
Classes make pinatas and our wonderful first grade, puts on our annual
Fiesta Float Parda every year.
A Day at the Capitol

Mrs. Buchanan and Mrs. Crist are two of our many NEF Grant winners through out the

Mrs. Crites' Class
Connally M. S. Band performed a mini Holiday Concert while teaching Elrod
4th and 5th grade students all about band instruments and music. That band is FUN!
Elrod wants to thank the Connally Band director and music teacher for a wonderful
performance! We really enjoyed it.
Elrod celebrated Geography Awareness Week, promoting geographic fluency
with a Geography T-shirt Day. On Nov. 18, students picked their favorite
t-shirts that locate a specific location on a map. Prizes were awarded
to students who wore t-shirts farthest and closet
to the hotspot location on our principal, Mrs. Whisenant's t-shirt.
Some of the geographic locations worn on t-shirts were Korea, Mexico, California,
Baltimore, Atlantic City, Jerusalem, Guam, Paris, Italy and many more!

Mrs. Buchanan nominated one of her students, Abigail Z. for the Tim
Duncan Character Award! Melissa Z. is a perfect roll model
for her fellow classmates. She
exhibits the valuable character
traits needed essential for future employment and success in life.
The Tim Duncan Character Award encourages and rewards students
who have learned and demonstrate core character traits at school.
What a perfect example! Congratulations Abigail!
Elrod Students experienced a Mock Election on Nov. 4, 2008. Students in grades
2-5 voted for their candidate for president. Voting took place in the classroom
or in the TIP Computer Lab. Elrod picked B. Obama as our next president.
The students enjoyed the learning experience.
