Absences

The Texas Legislature has passed a bill requiring students to be in attendance 90% of the days per semester. Upon the third absence or an excess of eight hours, students will receive an automatic failure for that session. Following are some rules and guidelines concerning absences:

  • Students are given a 20 minute break during the evening. During the summer session, students are given a 30 minute break. Tardies in returning from break will count toward the amount of time a student is absent.
  • Teachers will notify the EHS office if a student fails to return to class after any break. The student will be marked absent and subject to withdrawal from school.
  • Absences from Evening High School due to work are NOT excused.
  • Students must clear through the office to be permitted to leave the Evening High School campus before the scheduled dismissal time.
  • In case of severe or extreme weather conditions, students and parents should NOT take unnecessary risks to attend Evening High School classes. Students will be given an excused absence and will not be penalized for work assignments due.
