A - New NISD policy states that children with asthma may not go to recess or PE on Orange Air
Quality Alert Days. Questions about this policy may be directed to Shirley Schreiber at

Q - Where can I get a copy of the School Calendar?
A - You can download a copy from the Northside web site at http://www.nisd.net/schools/calendars/
Q - When is the first day of school?
A - The first day of school for all Northside schools will be August 25, 2008.
Q - What are the school hours?
A - School hours are 7:45 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.
Q - How critical is it that my child be at school each day? (Attendance)
A - Attendance is extremely important as children learn new things each and every day. Attendance is taken at 9:00 a.m. each morning. A student who is not present at 9:00 a.m. is considered absent for that day unless he/she comes to school with a doctor's note. Excused absences include illness, sickness, death in the family, quarantine, observance of a religious holy day, or weather/road conditions making travel dangerous. It is important that we keep accurate records on all absences; therefore, you must send a written explanation of each absence to your child's teacher. This note should include the date(s) of absences. Please keep statements from the doctor/dentist.
Q - Is there a dress code that my child must adhere to?
A - Yes, all children attending Northside schools must follow the districts dress code. While some schools have
chosen to adopt a specific dress code, our school has not. However, we ask that you please familiarize
yourself
with the district dress code policy. You can find it here.
Q - How can I help my child be successful in school?
A - Read with your child every night and encourage your child to do his/her best each day.
Q - Will my child have access to a computer at school?
A - Yes. All Evers students have access to Internet capable computers provided that their parents have given permission for them to use one. Our students must also adhere to the Districts Internet Acceptable Use Policy. For more information on the AUP, please visit http://www.nisd.net/cmptecww/auweb/index.htm.
Q - What special education programs will be offered at the school?
A - We will offer PPCD, AMC, BMC, ALE, Learning Lab and Speech for special education programs.
Q - Will Evers offer a pre-kindergarten program?
A - Yes, Evers will offer a PreK program. Students who live in the Evers attendance area and who
are eligible for pre-k can attend classes on a 1/2 time basis.
Q - How can I get a school supply list?
A - The school supply list is posted on our website.
Q - What about bus transportation?
A - School bus service is made available to students who live two miles or more from school or who live
where they must walk in hazardous traffic areas. Please ask in our office when we open or call the
Northside Transportation office at 695-3800, or visit the NISD Boundery and Buses web page.
Q - What sort of classroom celebrations will my child take part in this year?
A - Evers students will have 2 celebrations/parties per year. We hold these just before the winter break in
December and on Valentine's Day. These celebrations are held during the
last hour of the day. Party refreshments are permitted on these occasions only.
The delivery of balloons and flowers to students is not permitted. Birthday party invitations are to be distributed to ALL boys or ALL girls or ALL children in the class. Please keep in mind that children get their feelings hurt when invitations are not extended to them as they are to others.
Elementary schools are now required to follow nutrition rules established by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Parents may choose the food items sent to school for their own child, but may not send food items sent to school for other students. This limitation prohibits parents from sending cakes, cupcakes, cookies, etc. These guidelines apply to field trips as well as activities provided during the extended school day with 2 exceptions: 2 school parties and a third special day as designated by the campus principal.
For more information on the nutrition rules, please visit: New Nutrition Rules for Schools
