Fisher Elementary will be participating in the nationally known Accelerated Reader (AR) program.
AR is a reading program that combines children’s literature with computer software that tests for reading comprehension. Students choose books appropriate for their reading level from the popular titles in the library. Many AR books in the Fisher library will be labeled with a colored dot on the spine. The titles range in reading levels from kindergarten through seventh grade. Students read books at their own pace, and when they have finished take a 5, 10, or 20 question multiple choice test that is designed to verify that the student has read and understood the book. When the test is completed, the computer instantly scores the test and awards points based on the book’s length, reading level, and number of correct answers. Students are able to check their number of points at any time. They also are allowed to look back through the book to confirm their answers.
Currently, Fisher has access to over 100,000 tests. 7,000 of the tests are in Spanish.
AR is a program used in most of Fisher’s first - fifth grade classrooms and can be accessed in the library as well.
