Galm Elementary opened its doors on September 1, 1987. It was the thirtieth elementary school to be built in the Northside Independent School District. The school was named by the Board of Trustees in honor of a hardworking, compassionate man who devoted his career to bettering the education of children.
In 1987 when Galm Elementary opened its doors we had an enrollment of 367 students. In 1996 a twenty classroom addition was completed. Our enrollment for the 2005-2006 school year exceeds 739 students. Galm achieved the TEA "Recognized" status for having good TAAS scores during the following school years: 1993-1994, 1994-1995, 1997-1998, and 2000-2001. We have also been a TEA Recognized school for our TAKS scores since the 2005-2006 school year.
In October 2007, Galm Elementary celebrated its 20-year anniversary and had an enrollment of over 1000 students. Please click here to view the video tribute shown during our dedication reception.
In 1942 Clarence M. Galm was selected as Trustee to the Helotes District. In 1948 he helped begin the crusade of merging existing schools into one common district. His goal was to provide as many educational opportunities as possible for all children, but especially those in the rural areas. His vision became a reality in 1950 when the Northside School District was consolidated.
