George Lynn Britton was first elected to the Board in 2003 following an appointment to fill an unexpired term. He has served as Chairman of the Academics, Building, Finance, Technology, and Policy and Intergovernmental Relations committees. Britton has served as both Vice President and Secretary of the Board and currently serves as the Board representative to the Bexar County School Boards Coalition. He also is Northside's representative to the National School Boards Association (NSBA) National Affiliate Advocacy Network.
Britton taught Mathematics at Jay High School from 1967 until his retirement as Math Department Chairman in 2002. Britton is a Past President of the Northside Educational Improvement Council and has served as Texas and National Governor for Mu Alpha Theta. He currently serves as a member of the Union Pacific Citizens Advisory Panel, President of the Lackland Terrace Neighborhood Association, and President of the Board for the San Antonio Educational Facilities Corporation. In addition, Britton serves on the Steering Committee for the Alamo Service Connection (ASC), is the Chairman of the ASC's Budget and Finance Committee, and is Chairman of the Bexar County/City of San Antonio Joint Commission on Elderly Affairs.
Britton graduated from Marshall High School in 1963 and earned a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and English from Southwest Texas State University and a master's degree in Education from Our Lady of the Lake University. Britton's two children, now grown, are Northside products and attended District 1 elementary and middle schools and graduated from Jay High School.
