Annie L. Holmes was elected in 2003 and is serving her second term on the Board. She served two terms as Board Secretary. She has served as Chair and member of the Academics, Finance, and Policy and Intergovernmental Relations committees and is the past Board representative to the Northside Education Foundation. She currently is the Northside delegate for the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) 2009 Convention. Prior to her election to the Board, Holmes was a substitute teacher in NISD for 10 years.
Holmes is an advocate for her community and local government improvement projects and has served as a Board member and Vice President of the Meadow Village Neighborhood Association. She also is a former member of the San Antonio Community Advisory Committee and the Coalition of Neighborhood Associations.
Holmes graduated from the original L.C. Anderson High School in Austin, and earned her bachelor's degree from Texas State University. She retired from the Federal Civil Service after working with the Department of Defense at Lackland AFB and the Department of Veteran's Affairs. During her career, she was active with many civic organizational activities.
Holmes is married to U.S. Air Force Ret. Senior Master Sgt. Albert Holmes, and they have four grown children, Albert Jr., a graduate of Jefferson High School in SAISD, and Joan, Jackie, and Joyce, all graduates of Jay High School. Two grandsons are also NISD graduates, and five great-grandchildren are attending or will attend NISD schools.
Holmes is a member of Marbach Christian Church.
