Karen Freeman is a long-time NISD community volunteer, and was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2005 and currently serves as secretary of the Board. She is Chairwoman of the Technology Committee and serves on the Academics, Finance, Building, and Policy and Intergovernmental Relations committees. She is serving her second term as the Board's representative to the Northside Education Foundation.
Freeman has served on School Advisory Teams, the first NISD School Boundary Advisory Committee, NISD Strategic Plan committees, three NISD Bond committees (1998, 2001, and 2004) and the NISD Citizens' Bond Advisory Committee. Additionally, Freeman has held numerous PTA and Booster Organization positions at the NISD schools her children have attended and is an Honorary Life Member of the Texas PTA.
Freeman earned a bachelor's of science degree in medical technology at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Fla. She is married to Dr. Ted Freeman, who is a retired U.S. Air Force physician and practicing allergist. They have four children, all graduates of Northside. Kathy is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin; Michelle is also a UT-Austin graduate and has a master's degree from Purdue University; Jeannine is a student at the University of Texas at San Antonio; and Jason is a student at UT Austin.
The Freemans are active members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Helotes.
