The Trees of John Glenn

The tallest trees of John Glenn were planted by the school's first principal, George Skinner According to his wife, Joanne, Mr. Skinner "wanted to create a park-like atmosphere for the kids". He personally selected the trees and planted them all, himself. The week after he planted them, Mr. Skinner died of a heart attack. He began the legacy that we all so much enjoy as we walk about our campus.

In 1968, Mr. Skinner was "Father of the Year" for San Antonio. He had been an Eagle Scout, a he continued scouting activities for his sons and for the Alamo Area Council of Girl Scouts.

Mrs. Skinner is quoted as saying, "With his family, school, scouting, and church, my husband had a full life."
