Design -
Northside ISD applies Joseph Renzulli's concept of "Giftedness", which addresses a set of three interlocking clusters of traits: intellectual ability, creativity, and task commitment. It is our goal to identify children in whom these areas interact to a high degree. Upon identification, gifted students at the elementary school level are offered two programs, PEP and PROMISE, to help them maximize their potential. |
| PEP is an enrichment program designed for identified students in Kindergarten through second grade. The program focuses on the study of creative and productive people who have demonstrated scholarly behavior and who overcame obstacles to succeed. The program is designed to nurture creative thinking and independent thought in young students. PEP students meet with the GT Enrichment Specialist for two and one-half hours a week. Program services for the Kinder students are delivered by the Kinder teachers. |
| PROMISE is an enrichment program designed for identified students in grades three through five. The PROMISE program focuses on multidisciplinary, process oriented, and technology enriched mini studies. Each of these mini studies emphasizes critical and creative thinking, problem solving and self directed learning. Activities are often open-ended and designed to promote divergent thinking and risk taking. Students also complete a self directed independent research project. PROMISE students meet with the GT/Enrichment specialist for approximately three hours a week. |
