The 20th Century 
in the
United States

 
 

Scholarly Behaviors


 
    The 20th Century has been a time of unique change, exploration, discovery, and inventions.  This fast-paced century has seen the Wright brothers' first flight, the appearance of moving pictures, the sinking of the Titanic, two world wars, the first radio and television broadcasts, the splitting of the atom, astronaut Neil Armstrong's first steps on the moon, the fall of the Communism, and the ever-increasing dominance of computers.  The list goes on and on.

     In our unit of study, PROMISE students will:

    • explore the events, causes and effects of WW II.
    • compare and contrast the era of the Great Depression.
    • discuss the emotional time of the civil rights movement.
    • investigate the changes in transportation and communication.
    • be exposed to early musical styles.
    • explore recreational activities and/or sports of the century.
     In our unit of study, PEP students will study creative and productive people of the 20th Century.  These will include:  Earle Dickson, Orville Redenbacher, Henry Ford, the Wright     brothers, Sally Ride, Albert Einstein, Jonas Salk, Ruby Bridges, Jackie Robinson, Mahatma Gandhi,    Sandra Day O'Connor, Louis Armstrong, Oprah Winfrey, Walt Disney, and Shel Silverstein.
     
All G/T Students will incorporate the facets of Depth & Complexity and Scholarly Behavior throughout our lessons.
