Principal
Ms. Smith
My name is Rhonda Smith and I am thrilled and honored to be the new principal of Helotes Elementary.
Now a little bit about myself. I am a proud product of Northside schools attending both E. M. Pease Middle School and Oliver Wendell Holmes High School.
After graduating from NISD, I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in Reading from Southwest Texas State University and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from The University of Texas in San Antonio.
I have 20 years of experience in education. My first teaching experience was at John Glenn Elementary where I taught kindergarten. At Scobee Elementary, I taught first, second and fourth grade. In addition, I taught special education in the Academic Mastery Center at Scobee. I spent 3 years teaching middle school at Youree Drive Middle School in Shreveport, Louisiana. At Boone Elementary, I taught special education in the inclusion Content Mastery Center and I was the special education campus coordinator at Evers Elementary.
Prior to coming to Helotes Elementary, I was the vice principal at Anna Mae “Mas” Nichols Elementary for 3 years and William J. Thornton Elementary for 2 years. Using my teaching experience, enthusiasm for learning, and love for children, it is my goal to support the students, parents, and staff at Helotes Elementary. I feel fortunate to be a part of the Helotes Family where children come first.
Thank you for the wonderful welcome. I look forward to meeting all of you! Please feel free to come by and or contact me at 397-3840/rhondasmith@nisd.net Remember Bulldogs Rock!

Mrs. Comparon began working in Northside ISD after receiving her Bachelors of Arts degree in Education at UTSA in 1979. She began her teaching career at Esparza Elementary where she spent six years. She then married her husband, Ed, and moved to Germany where she taught three years in the Department of Defense Dependents Schools. After returning from Germany, she taught at Knowlton Elementary for 3 years and began working towards her Masters in Special Education. Then, in 1991, she transferred to Evers Elementary and completed her degree. While working at Evers, she worked to receive her Masters in Education for Administration. From there she moved to John Glenn as a new Vice Principal and served for three years, after which she chose to move to Helotes as their new vice principal.
Mrs. Comparon shared, "Helotes is the best school in Northside. The parents are supportive and the students are great! The teachers work hard. Everyone is so friendly! I love it here."
