Dr. Vye Carlile

Dr. Viola Carlile graduated from Oliver Wendell Holmes High School in 1966. Upon graduation, she attended The University of Texas at Austin where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Communications, a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with bilingual and English as a Second Language emphasis, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Her career includes teaching positions at the elementary and middle school levels as well as a graduate school professorship. In addition, she has owned her own preschool, supervised student teachers at The University of Texas at Austin, and has written books and articles.

Dr. Carlile now lives in Salem, Oregon, where she has created a Shakespearean study course for her eighth grade ESL students and fundraises to take eleven students to Ellis Island in New York City. She produces a student-written literary book at every school she has worked for in Salem, promotes the Portland Trailblazer contest so that her students can attend the games, and exposes her students to the world through a variety of guest speakers. She has received many awards including the Salem Chamber of Commerce Crystal Apple Award and the school district's Rising Star Award. Some of her professional memberships include the American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the International Reading Association.
