Northside ISD often is called San Antonio's "destination district" because the majority of new homes being built in Bexar County are in NISD. The growth is a testament to the quality of the schools in Northside ISD, which is the largest and most diverse school district in the state to earn a Recognized rating from the Texas Education Agency.

NISD is the fourth largest school District in Texas and is one of San Antonio's largest employers. The District opens three to five new schools a year, and enrollment is projected to hit 100,000 by the 2013-2014 school year.
