NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND ACT: Testing Options for Paraprofessionals

The eligibility requirements for working as an instructional assistant in a Title I School in NISD are
:

An Associates Degree or higher OR
Two years of college/university study OR
Demonstrate through a formal assessment the ability to assist in instruction AND knowledge of reading, writing, and mathematics.

If an employee or applicant does not have at least 48 semester hours from an accredited college or university, the third option--testing--must be used to satisfy the NCLB requirements. What follows are the options available in NISD for satisfying the testing requirements for NCLB.
1. Pass the math, reading, and writing sections of the TASP (Texas Academic Skills Program) or THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment.) The "Accuplacer" version may be used to satisfy this requirement.
OR
2. Be exempt from the TASP due to acceptable scores* on any of the following tests: SAT, ACT, Exit Level TAAS.

Texas Assessment of Academic Skills

COMBINED: 1070+

VERBAL: 500+

MATH: 500+

COMPOSITE: 23+

ENGLISH: 19+

MATH: 19+

READING: TLI X-86+

WRITING: 1770+

MATH: TLI X-89+
