Overview
Northside ISD offers employees a Smart Suite of health benefit plans fully insured by Humana. The HDHP 2400, CoverageFirst 1500, PPO 500 and PPO 300 plans utilize the Humana Preferred Network (HPN). Employees who have other health insurance and do not wish to participate in an NISD-sponsored Humana health plan, can choose the no-medical option and will be provided a $50,000 or $80,000 life insurance policy with either of those choices. Spectrum Athletic Clubs
When a Northside Employee signs up fo a Humana plan the employee has access to free membership to the Spectrum Athletic Club of their choice. (Note: This free benefit does not include membership to the Roger's Ranch Club or the Concord. Northside ISD Employees who have signed up for a Humana Health Plan have an opportunity to take advantage of rapid recovery treatments through the Airrosti Rehab Centers. Airrosti is typically covered at the Employee's applicable specialist copay. Some treatments included in the program are as follows: Back & Neck Conditions, Shoulder & Arm Conditions, Hand & Wrist Conditions and various others which typically require only about three visits to treat.

NOTE: Employees who do not wish to enroll in one of the NISD Humana health plans must enroll in one of the following no coverage options: No-Medical option (1) with $50,000 Basic Life Insurance or -- No-Medical option (2) with *$80,000 Basic Life Insurance. There is no cost to the employee. Participation in either of these plans does not provide the Spectrum Athletic Club benefit. (NISD pays the premium for these coverages. *Employer-paid premiums for coverage above $50,000 are considered imputed income and will be taxed. Care for Out of Area Dependents
Dependents of active employees are eligible for enhanced out of area benefits if they are enrolled in school outside of the HPN or ChoiceCare service area (school information must be provided) or they reside outside the HPN or ChoiceCare service area (address must be provided). Dependents are expected to use HPN or ChoiceCare providers when in the San Antonio area. Short term events, such as vacations, are not eligible. For an Out of Area Request Form, please click here.

DENTAL

Dental health is an important part of total health and wellness. While HumanaDental is NISD’s new provider, our dental plan and benefit options are similar to those offered in the past.  An employee can choose from one of five plan options.  The Traditional Plus plans offer four deductible and annual maximum options, or an employee can select the Humana Dental DHMO plan.  All of the plans offer preventative services like; oral examinations, routine cleanings, x-rays, and topical fluoride treatments.  Orthodontic Treatment is also available under each plan; please click here for Transistion of Care Form for Orthodontic Treatment. An employee can view the in-network dental provider listing, by simply visiting www.HumanaDental.com.  

VISION

As our new provider of eye care, HumanaVision plans encourage prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment helping our employees achieve good vision and a healthy lifestyle. With over 22,500 provider locations including independent optometrists, ophthalmologists, Vision Source and TSO, an employee has access to one of the largest vision networks in the United States. Plus, an employee will save on frames, by paying wholesale prices avoiding the high retail markups.  And the cost of frames is the same at any provider. Employee Assistance Program/EAP

CANCER

The Northside medical insurance options all provide coverage for medical expenses incurred as a result of cancer. However, the diagnosis and treatment of cancer can present additional financial hardship for employees and their families. For this reason, Northside makes available supplemental Cancer coverage. Tax Free Health Benefits

Northside ISD offers all employees the opportunity to pay for health premiums and certain medical expenses with tax-free income through our Section 125 Cafeteria Plan. By electing to participate in the Cafeteria Plan, premiums for any medical, dental or vision premiums, and the premium for up to $50,000 life insurance, will be payroll deducted before computation of federal income tax.  This results in a tax savings to the employee. Employees may also elect to have a pre-tax payroll deduction deposited into a Medical Flexible Spending Account (FSA) in order to receive reimbursement for out-of-pocket eligible expenses (e.g., deductibles, lab fees, prescription drugs etc.) For a complete list of eligible expenses please click here.  Employees enrolled in the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) may elect to enroll in a Health Savings Account (HSA) instead of the Medical FSA.  Like the Medical FSA, payroll deductions for the HSA are taken pre-tax.  Unlike the Medical FSA, monies in a HSA accumulate from year to year. A Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is also available under the Cafeteria Plan. Health & Wellness Program

Northside ISD has established a Health and Wellness Committee to provide advice and assistance to NISD decision makers regarding matters of insurance, wellness activities, and other issues related to health benefits for Northside employees. Members of the committee are selected from each campus and central office department.The mission of this program is to promote healthy lifestyles among all employees and their families and thereby reduce medical costs and utilization, improve quality of life and enhance productivity.For additional information on our Health and Wellness Program, committee membership or its activities, please contact Anna-Marie Rizo, Benefits Communications Specialist at 397-8620.
