Health Insurance
Northside ISD offers employees a Smart Suite of health benefit plans fully insured by Humana.
Each Humana plan includes a free membership to a Spectrum Athletic Club, as well as a reduced membership fee for family members. (Membership at the Concord and Roger's Ranch Club is available to employees for an extra fee.)
Employees who have other health insurance and do not wish to participate in an NISD-sponsored Humana health plan can choose the no-medical option and will be provided a life insurance policy with either of those choices.
Dental Insurance
Northside employees may choose between five dental plan options through Humana Dental.
Vision Insurance
A Humana Vision plan is an option available to all regular NISD benefit-eligible employees. Benefits include coverage for eye exams, frames, lenses, and contacts.
Cancer/Critical Illness
The Northside medical insurance options all provide coverage for medical expenses incurred as a result of cancer. However, the diagnosis and treatment of cancer can present additional financial hardship for employees and their families. For this reason, Northside makes available supplemental cancer and critical illness coverage through Allstate.
Supplemental Life Insurance
All Northside Humana medical plans include $5,000 basic life insurance coverage for the employee. Employees who chose a “No medical/Life Insurance Only” option are provide either $50,000 or $80,000 life insurance at no cost. Employees who chose the $80,000 coverage option assume any tax liability for the imputed value of $30,000 life insurance coverage. Recognizing employees need to provide security for family members in the event of death of a family member, Northside makes available supplemental life insurance for employee, spouse and children through Unum Life Insurance Company.
Income Protection (Disability) Insurance
Disability income protection insurance is available for purchase by employees. This insurance provides the employee with a supplemental source of income should the employee be unable to work due to a non-occupational illness or injury. Coverage levels are selected by the employee but cannot exceed 66.6% of the employee’s usual NISD monthly income. Premium rates vary based on plan options selected.
Legal
LegalGUARD is an Employee benefit plan to protect the legal rights and financial security for employees and their families.
Current employees
Information and assistance for current employees is available on the NISD Intranet (login required).
Tax Free Health Benefits
Northside ISD offers all employees the opportunity to pay for health premiums and certain medical expenses with tax-free income through our Section 125 Cafeteria Plan. By electing to participate in the Cafeteria Plan, premiums for any medical, dental or vision premiums, and the premium for up to $50,000 life insurance, will be payroll deducted before computation of federal income tax. This results in a tax savings to the employee.
Employees may also elect to have a pre-tax payroll deduction deposited into a Medical Flexible Spending Account (FSA) in order to receive reimbursement for out-of-pocket eligible expenses (e.g., deductibles, lab fees, prescription drugs etc.) Employees enrolled in the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) may elect to enroll in a Health Savings Account (HSA) or the Medical FSA. Like the Medical FSA, payroll deductions for the HSA are taken pre-tax. Unlike the Medical FSA, funds in a HSA accumulate from year to year. A Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is also available under the Cafeteria Plan.
Health & Wellness Program
Northside ISD has established a Health and Wellness Committee to provide advice and assistance to NISD decision makers regarding matters of insurance, wellness activities, and other issues related to health benefits for Northside employees. Members of the committee are selected from each campus and central office department, and serve as two-way communication ambassadors.
The mission of this program is to promote healthy lifestyles among all employees and their families and thereby reduce medical costs and utilization, improve quality of life and enhance productivity.
