Gerardo Marquez, Principal The Principal is responsible to the Superintendent of Schools for the proper administration of John Jay High School. It is his duty to organize, supervise, and administer all of the affairs of the school as they affect students, teachers, and patrons. He will be glad to help you with your problems. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Gerardo Marquez graduated from Burbank High School, in the San Antonio Independent School District. Mr. Marquez attended Trinity University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education, and went on to attend Texas A&M University–Kingsville, earning a Master of Science in Education Administration. Mr. Marquez began his career in January, 1981 at Fox Tech High School during which time he taught health, physical education and Spanish. During his 15 year tenure at Fox Tech, Mr. Marquez coached the boys’ varsity basketball team, leading the school to a State Championship in 1997. Mr. Marquez served in an administrator capacity at SAISD’s Martin Luther King Middle School, prior to commencing his career with Northside ISD. In 1998, he joined the staff of NISD and John Jay High School as an Assistant Principal and two years later was promoted to Vice-Principal. After three years as a Jay High School Vice-Principal, Mr. Marquez was selected as Principal of John Jay High School. Mr. Marquez became principal of John Jay HS in July, 2003. He has been instrumental in the enhancement and growth of many of the school’s academic and extra curricular programs. Mr. Marquez is married, and has a daughter and a son. A true Northside ISD family, Mr. Marquez’s wife is a teacher at Nichols Elementary, and their two children attend NISD schools. |
