Art I (9-12)
|
Prerequisite: none. Offered as a one-year elective this
course is a foundation program in art. Art I is devoted to the conscious
and systematic approach to various art processes, procedures, concepts,
vocabulary, and art appreciation. The art experiences of this course
are geared to provide a strong foundation in two- and three-dimensional
art. |

Art II (10-12)
|
Prerequisite: Art 1 & Department approval. Art II
is intended to build on the experiences and skills acquired from Art
I. Student projects will begin to show more depth and complexity demonstrating
a refinement of skills and techniques. Structure is maintained through
teacher guidance while allowing students to express individual ideas,
interpretations, and selection of materials. Visual problem-solving
and abstraction are conceptual thought processes that can be found
in the assignments in Art II. |

Art III (11-12)
|
Prerequisite: Art II & Department approval. Art
III provides for further exploration of techniques, media, and expression
of ideas. Building on the experiences of the previous years, students
will be able to make conscious and objective use of the elements and
principles of design in this course. An individualized program will
take into account student interests with activities requiring technical
challenges, personal interest, and problem-solving. |

Art IV (12)
|
Prerequisite: Art III & Department approval. The
fourth year art course stresses independence of expression, self-direction,
and quality. Students will engage in advanced study, while maintaining
the attitudes and self-discipline of serious artists. Students will
be able experience further exploration of techniques, media, and expression
of ideas while making conscious and objective use of design elements
and principles. Each individualized program will take into account
student interest in furthering art studies (portfolio development),
art careers, or enjoyment of art as a leisure activity. |
