Tutors
The AVID elective class meets twice a week with tutors.
Tutors are teachers and college students who come into the A.V.I.D. classroom to make sure the AVID students are successful and prepared for their classes.
Tutors help students understand the problems by working with them in small groups while stimulating peer teaching. Peer teaching will help students understand on a level of ownership.
How is this done?
Tutors stimulate questions with questions so the students are able to answer by questioning each other. With this questioning, and the tutor's direction, the students are able to come to an understanding of the original problem. This type of understanding is deeper than just knowing, students use examples and strategies to help one another.
