General Information: The United States Academic Decathlon is a team competition wherein students match their intellects with students from other schools. Students are tested in ten categories: Art, Economics, Essay, Interview, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Music, Science, Social Science, and Speech.

Meeting Time/Location: Practices are held before and after school and students are usually enrolled in a Humanities class that feeds into the Decathlon program.

Major Events: The John Jay Academic Decathlon participates in two invitational meets, the Corpus Christi Moody Academic Decathlon Invitational Tournament and the Holmes Academic Decathlon Invitational Meet. The Regional competition held in late January determines whether or not a team advances to State competition. Normally, the top three schools in the region advance to State.

Accomplishments/Awards: Many team members have placed in various categories at different competitions. The Moody Academic Decathlon Tournament was held on November 21 and 22, 2003 in Corpus Christi. The Jay AcaDec team did a fantastic job and finished THIRD overall in the tournament.
