We are pleased to announce that for nearly ten years John Jay has successfully participated in a program that helps guide young women in dealing with important issues that they may be facing. The Mí Carrera program, sponsored by the YWCA of San Antonio, tackles tough issues like developing a positive self-esteem, personal and sexual responsibility, and planning for the future.

We will be hosting a meeting every Thursday for one hour. In these meetings we will discuss topics such as goal setting, self-respect, self-esteem, decision-making, career options, and relationships. Meeting times will change each week to help prevent the girls from missing too many classes in any one subject.

We discuss a number of topics such as:
* Relationships
* Identifying & dealing with emotions
* Decision-making
* Looking for, getting, & keeping a job
* Options for the high school graduate

We like to have fun! What’s being a teenager without having a little fun? The ladies of Mi Carrera do a number of fun activities.
* Field trips to colleges
* Lock-ins with lots of food and activities
* Trips to Fiesta Texas

We aim for informative and fun meetings. You might learn a lot about yourself and:
* What you like
* What you don’t like
* How to handle stress and anger
*What you can expect from yourself
* Your talents and how to use them.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact JoDee Cortez in the Career Center or by calling 678-2735. You may also direct Mí Carrera questions to Anna Thomison at the YWCA, 433-9922 or to Vanessa Solis, Mí Carrera program manager, also at the YWCA, 433-9922.
